About HATS

Homeschool Academic Teaching Support (HATS) is an educational organization in partnership with Hempfield Homeschool Support Group. HATS meets for 30 weeks throughout the school year providing classes for the junior and senior high school level homeschooled student. There are currently 170 students from over 120 families participating in HATS. It is the policy of the Hempfield Homeschool Group and HATS that our programs are for the traditional homeschooled student. We do not accept public charter cyberschool students for enrollment in our programs.

HATS classes are taught by experienced teachers who are very knowledgeable in their fields. Please see “About Our Teachers” online and in the HATS brochure for information about individual teachers.

Due to church policy, parent monitors are required to be present during classes. Therefore, upon registering for HATS, the parent must commit to monitor at HATS two times per class. If a student registers for two classes, the parent must monitor four class sessions, etc., up to a maximum of eight times. Monitor assignments are posted weekly on the HATS web site http://hatsonline.wordpress.com.

When a student is not in class but needs to remain in the building, the student must be in the Talk Room or the Study Room. Parents may fulfill their monitor obligations while monitoring the Talk Room or the Study Room.

Each class requires several hours of homework per week. Twice a year evaluation grades are given to the student. HATS is an academic group. Parents are welcome to organize and facilitate social events or field trip outings.

Updates on activities and monitor assignments are posted weekly on the website at http://hatsonline.wordpress.com.
